"Remember, there are no accidents, only negligent acts" Jeff Cooper
“Teen killed playing with gun” ! How often have you seen this headline in the news? Well it’s happened again and for me I can’t ignore the problem any longer.
A 17 year old high school junior hanging with his friends in rural Quarryville, PA was playing with a friend’s handgun, removed the magazine, put the gun under his chin and pulled the trigger. Really funny, huh? Without even reading the rest of the story you know the ending.
Once again guns are going to catch hell for this one too. The gun knew it was still loaded, why didn’t the kid? I am going to lay the blame for this one, and all the others like it, at the feet of the anti-gun movement. They are creating a whole generation of ignorant people that don’t know how safely handle a firearm if they come in contact with one. And at some time they will.
Groups like the Million Moms and the Brady Campaign are guilty of negligence by not encouraging firearm safety instead of ignorance…”after all if it saves one child!” I blame these groups for every kid and even adults who has ever committed “suicide” by stupidity.
Gun bigots like to say that “they don’t believe in guns”. Can they also say that they don’t believe in bullets as they are ripping through flesh and bone? Without affording firearms the respect they deserve, you will get what you deserve through your own stupidity.
The anti-gun crowd is going to call for stricter gun control, mechanical safety devices and locks to keep this from happening again. Laws, locks and more controls cannot and will not take the place of proper training and education.
The safety rules are simple. There are only 4 basic rules to firearm safety and any one of these rules would have prevented this death and many more like it.
When are the anti-gun groups going to get with the program and start encouraging firearm safety training for parents and children? The NRA and other groups have some great programs and some will do the training for free.
I am encouraging all parents to reject the preposterous anti-safety rhetoric of the gun grabbers and take a class in firearm safety so you can intelligently explain to your children how guns really work and how to be safe around them.
Mom and dad I’m talking to you now. Don’t you drown-proof your kids? Don’t you tell them to look both ways before crossing the street? You wouldn’t let your children drive the family car without some kind of training. And after you have given them the benfit of all your experience you would hope that they learned enough to make good decisions and come home safely. Letting your children learn about guns from their friends and their favorite Hip-Hop singer isn't an intellegent alternative for formal education.
Like the young man in this incident what are your children going to do when and if they come in contact with a firearm? What have YOU taught them?

Police said the man, identifed as Jaron Robinson, 23, was shot in the neck. He died a short time later at Methodist Hospital.
