The
Hate-America Crowd Speaks Its Mind
By Doug Patton
May 12, 2003
They
came out of the woodwork like cockroaches this week in response
to my column of two weeks ago, “Setting
the Record Straight on Who Armed Saddam.”
In that column,
I laid out the true pattern of arms sales to Saddam Hussein
over the last thirty years. The hate-America gang took great
umbrage when I reported that the largest suppliers of arms
to Iraq from 1973 to 2002 were none other than Russia and
France, with only a small percentage (1%) coming from the
United States.
It grated on
their ears to hear once more that it was the French who
supplied Saddam with the nuclear technology to build the
reactor the Israelis had to destroy in 1981. Of course,
the outcry from Baghdad at that time was that the reactor
was to produce nuclear power. As if the nation with the
world’s second largest supply of oil needs nuclear power.
Two themes
that ran through each of the pieces of vitriol I received
this week were an unabashed support of France and the notion
that President George W. Bush, the man the left loves to
hate, is a war criminal.
One international
genius from Akron, Ohio, who thinks we could not have won
the American Revolution without the French, wrote:
“Before
you demean the French, try remembering that this country
you so adore is only here because of them. From the backward
thinking slew of pigs we have in America today, I am forced
to question if they made the right decision 225 years ago.
George Bush broke multiple laws to wage his war, and I wonder
if it even bothers you that to defeat the ‘enemy’ we had
to become like the enemy.”
In a much more
polite tone, a lady from the United Kingdom told me that
the war was illegal, then added:
“Bashing
France (or any other country) will not absolve the United
States and the United Kingdom. ‘Winning the war’ is not
a retrospective justification for going to war in the first
place. (Ask any victim of the school bully.)”
Another reader
wrote:
“Don't
you have anything better to do than bash the French? Even
if France was the cause of all our problems here in poor
ol' America, that still doesn't make the Bush Crime Family
good people… We can all point fingers, but this whole thing
stinks. From a president that was selected by the U.S. Supreme
Court, to our flailing and failing economy, right on into
the destruction of two foreign countries, it all stinks.”
Most of the
people who write this stuff don’t even bother to identify
themselves. But one man used all three of his names, ala
Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray or John Wayne Gacy, which
was a little scary, especially considering what he had to
say (you can almost hear him scream):
“I can't
stand our thieving, corrupt, so-called elected officials…
Corporate America has over-taken this government… A coup
d’e-tat…has occurred while the sheeple were asleeple! We
must unite and mount boycotts and protests against all the
major Television Media giants! We must begin to expose them
for what they are! State Run Propagandists!”
But my favorite
fan mail this week came from a couple of people who just
let it all hang out. They didn’t even try to argue with
my position. They simply flailed at me:
“You are
nothing but a self-centered piece of sh-t,” wrote one. “Get
your facts straight instead of running off at the mouth!”
And finally,
a person whom I surmised was from Australia, gave the entire
USA a rebuke we should never forget:
“…f--k
off, you a--h-les, and leave the world alone! An alcoholic
as president turned religious fanatic, sick society!”
There you have
it: the hate-America left in their own words.
