"It's not about Gun Control!"
By Nicki Fellenzer
It appears every police force in the country has gotten its hands on some free goodies, intent on ramming them down gun owners’ throats “for the children.” Police in the Washington area, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Indiana, California and Illinois, where no one appears to want them, have all pushed “gun safety” and gun control groups stress these “free” devices will save children’s lives without costing you a penny.
Well, it’s not exactly true, is it?
The Project ChildSafe gun lock giveaway is funded, in part, by a $50 million grant from the Department of Justice. That means taxpayers, whether they like it or not, whether they are gun owners or not, and whether they approve of this program or not, are forced to pay for it with their hard earned dollars. They are forced to shell out their earnings to fund the nanny state’s efforts to save us from ourselves.
“But what’s not to like?” you may ask. After all, the program’s noble goal is to save children’s lives! Do we not read daily about some child getting a hold of a firearm and either losing his own life, or fatally shooting another?
Now let me ask you this:
How many of those lives could have been saved by the parents or guardians exercising some basic responsibility? How many of those firearms were left within easy access of the children? Why were those children left alone, unsupervised with loaded weapons? Why were they not trained to respect the gun and to follow basic firearms safety rules? How many lives would have been saved by those simple steps?
Accountability saves lives and helps preserve liberties. That’s why it’s not in the government’s best interest to promote accountability. If they did -- if each gun owner ensured that their children were well aware of firearms rules and never left unsupervised with loaded firearms -- we wouldn’t need the government’s “help” and the bureaucracy would starve. That’s why they and their compliant gun banner lapdogs would much rather promote locking up your gun and rendering it useless in the event of an attack.
Locking up your gun will allow you to blissfully ignore the need to teach your child to respect firearms and to handle them properly.
Locking up your gun will allow you to relax and not worry about leaving your loaded guns around your young child.
Locking up your guns allows you to stop relying on your own sense of responsibility and accountability, but rather become dependent on a mechanical gadget.
Of course, locking up your guns also means that you won’t have access to them when you really need them. And what self-respecting home invader will wait around for you to unlock your gun and load it to even the playing field and give you a fair chance?
But this is something the “authorities” don’t want you to consider. If you render your tool of self defense inoperable and are consequently harmed, they will simply point to the impotence and ineffectiveness of owning firearms for self-defense. They will assert that your gun did nothing to protect you from violent thugs, and ergo you need state agents to do the job right, hoping you will ignore the fact that their constant push to force you to incapacitate your weapon directly led to your tragedy in the first place.
Oh, but it’s not about gun control, the gun banners squeal. It’s about “safety.” It’s to keep your children safe from harm. You can’t protect your children enough, they screech. They cite false statistics, laced with misrepresentation, hoping you will fall for their tripe.
It’s all about gun control. It’s about making you dependent on technology, instead of your own common sense. It’s about rendering your gun useless against armed thugs. It’s about ignoring simple rules of firearms safety in favor of mechanical gadgets and shirking your responsibilities in favor of a government-controlled, socialist campaign to relieve you of your duties and responsibilities as a parent and give the state more control over your life. And it’s being funded with your hard-earned tax dollars.
