Gun Control "Enthusiasts" Strike Again...

at another non-existent target!

By Nicki Fellenzer

The enemies of self-defense have struck again. Ya gotta hand it to 'em - they're some of the most persistent vermin ever created. There's nothing they won't do - no lie they won't tell to manipulate and scare you into giving up your Constitutional and God-given rights to keep and bear arms. And when their lies are exposed and their agenda foiled, they simply move on to other ways to whine away your rights.

Their latest offensive is the "loophole." For years they've whined about the gun show "loophole" where allegedly any criminal can walk in and purchase a weapon of mass destruction without first undergoing an intrusive background check and anal probe courtesy of the Brady Bunch. Any sane individual must wonder, then, why it is that criminals aren't purchasing firearms from gun shows en masse. One must question the shrewdness of the criminal element for buying guns from the dangerous black marketers on the street, instead of walking into a gun show - a safe and secure environment - and walking out with an easily concealable, shoulder-fired weapon that can take out an airplane from the ground, as Diaz, Brady, Nosanchuck and their cowardly ilk appear to believe. As a matter of fact, any half-way coherent person must wonder about the veracity of these claims. If this mythical "loophole" exists, why is less than one percent of the criminal element using it?

Is the criminal communication network (CCN) broken and unable to spread the word in the underworld about this easy way to get your hands on some firepower?

Or are these hysterical bleatings groundless, baseless and unsubstantiated?

Fact is that even though less than one percent of criminals use gun shows as their firearms source, Brady needs an enemy. And she's willing to do ANYTHING to achieve her goal - even limit the freedom of exchanging value for value between two consenting Americans.

Well, if you think her attacks on a free and cooperative transaction between two human beings are bad enough, hold on to your Underoos! Because the hottest of the loopholes has made its appearance! From the gelatinous cretins who brought you the gun show "loophole" now comes the "NEWSPAPER LOOPHOLE!"

Yes, unable to perpetuate the myth of gun shows being supermarkets for criminals, Brady and the gang have invented the newest one-stop shop for your resident villains - your local paper! And doggoneit - Super Sarah will fly in to the rescue to stop these insidious suppliers of felonious firearms from wreaking havoc on our Brave New world…

…For the children, of course.

The news of this “Newspaper Loophole” is spreading and ignorant editors and managers are jumping on the bandwagon. They’re dumping gun sale ads en masse…

…for the children, of course.

It boggles this writer’s mind why a newspaper, which is a money-making enterprise, would give up profits and possibly readership for a political agenda that aims to limit consensual transactions between those willing to make a value for value exchange.

It also boggles my mind why the hysterical bellyaching of uninformed dullards is getting national attention. “CLASSIFIED ADS ALLOW FELONS TO BUY GUNS WITH NO BACKGROUND CHECK,” screeches the website of the National Campaign to Close the Newspaper Classified Gun Ad Loophole.. “These ads allow felons, domestic abusers, mentally ill persons, and others in prohibited categories to purchase firearms without undergoing a criminal background check.”

Well, gee, pals -- these ads also allow you to sell your property freely to your friend or neighbor without undergoing vast bureaucratic loop-de-loops or getting permission from the nanny state to dispose of your private property as you see fit. But that aside…

Let’s say you’re a felon or other person in “prohibited” categories, who decides to get a firearm. You have a choice: either get a throwaway weapon from the street for just a few dollars or look through the newspaper for someone selling their firearm for several hundred bucks. Which do you choose? According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, vast majority of criminals choose either friends and family (39.6 percent) or theft, black market or off the street (39.2 percent). Funny, but newspaper ads aren’t mentioned.

Domestic abusers already beat the snot out of their victims. They already break the law without consideration of ramifications. Think they won’t be able to get a firearm if newspapers stop running gun ads?

And what about those mental patients? How many of them are going to check the “I’m a dangerous psychopath with a long history of mental defects” box on their yellow form while buying a firearm? As far as I’m aware, there is no federal database for loons, so any dealer will have to take their word for it, right? Certainly, the closing of the newspaper “loophole” won’t stop that purchase, will it?

So it appears this latest “loophole” is yet another attempt on the part of the enemies of self-defense and freedom to vilify a tool, while pointedly ignoring the millions of deadly “weapons” such as cars, knives and pools which are used to kill hundreds of thousands of people, but are sold freely in any newspaper around the country.

Facts are these:

  • There’s no evidence to suggest that newspaper ads are a virtual supermarket for criminals to go gun shopping.
  • Guns are perfectly legal products and should be sold and advertised as such.
  • Crime involving firearms began its decline before the Brady Bill became law, and ergo it’s difficult to claim background checks are doing anything to stop criminals from obtaining firearms.

It’s a shame newspapers around the country are falling for these inane histrionics and fail to see through these obvious attempts to vilify guns, gun rights and the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I can only hope they get what they deserve: a loss in advertising sales and readership.
